St. Philip’s has a notable musical tradition, with the basic mission of praising God through voice and instrument. Here is a place to worship through musical excellence, while experiencing wonderful community. With vocal and handbell choirs, the contemporary worship band, and a need for occasional instrumentalists and substitute organists/pianists, there is sure to be a place for every musician.
Bells of Praise
This dedicated volunteer group participates monthly in both worship services. They are also involved in special music events including the Christmas Concert and Music Sunday. Many techniques are included in their ringing, using a full five-octave set of bells and three-octave set of hand chimes. The Bells of Praise welcomes additional ringers at any time during the season. Requirements include a love of music and an interest in fellowship. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Sanctuary Choir
The Sanctuary Choir at St. Philip’s has been an integral part of St. Philip’s for as long as the church has been in existence. The choir sings at the 9:00 a.m. service and occasionally at the 10:30 a.m. service. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. All singers are welcome. Organ
Our pipe organ, custom-built by the Schantz Organ Company of Orrville, Ohio, was installed in 1982 and has been a central part of worship at St. Philip’s ever since. With 42 ranks, 46 stops, and 2,337 pipes, it fills our sanctuary with rich, vibrant sound. Recently refurbished, the organ now includes an updated digital console while preserving the beauty and character of its original design—ensuring it will continue to lead worship for generations to come.

Worship Band
The Contemporary Worship Band leads the 10:30 service every Sunday, with practices on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:00. Our music is a lively mix of rock, gospel, world, and jazz.
Besides Sunday mornings, the worship band performs on the St. Philip’s float for Fridley ’49er Days every summer.
Also, we lead an original polka worship service on Polka Night in the summer. Who knew that Lutherans liked to polka? Click

If you sing or play an instrument, please make your presence known! We especially need singers. Requirements are to be able to sing in tune and blend well with other singers (you don’t need to be a “soloist”.)
Our desire is that the Worship Band be an organic product of St. Philip’s unique musical personality. We want to make good use of the gifts you bring! You may contribute occasionally or more often; we will work with your schedule.
